My name is Etienne Beneke or @goodseo as I was formerly known on Twitter. I have now progressed to a more “balanced” (SEO and Social) Twitter account at @etiennebeneke
Listen to podcasts featuring me and a few specialists in their field at the Aegis Thought Leadership Digibate.
SEO or Search Engine Optimisation
Up until July 2011 i had been Managing Director and Director of SEO at www.xcellentmedia.co.za, an Online Marketing company based in Cape Town.
Prior to that i headed up the SEO department at a global online gaming corporation www.forwardslash.com for three years.
I am currently employed as Head of SEO / Natural Search at an Agency in Cape Town. For those interested, my CV is available for download here.
I used to blog about my own personal day to day experiences in the SEO field, ups and downs, things i have learned the hard way and things that I know that work for me. Sadly i have not been able to find the time lately for this rather demanding pastime.
This blog is not an attempt at being another Dave Naylor or Darren Slatten, nor is it’s purpose to try and impress other SEO’s. You might find something interesting and useful on this blog, or you might not.
This SEO blog is called Goodseo because I am a follower and enforcer of good SEO practices. That’s all.

Whisky
As an avid single malt whisky collector, taster and drinker i keep a special place in my heart for the wonderfully in-your-face, almost rude but mysterious whiskies from Islay (pronounced “eye-luh”). There are only a few single malts from the coastal Islay region, most notably Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila Distillery and Kilchoman.
I had the absolute pleasure in meeting Mr. Rynard Van der Westhuizen, one of South Africa’s most knowledgeable whisky advocates and Chairman of the SA Chapter of the Keepers of the Quaich at a recent whisky/food pairing with Bob Skinstad (former Springbok rugby captain and owner of Bobsforgood – an organisation that puts shoes on the feet of needy children)
Rynard Van der Westhuizen is also Marketing Manager at Brandhouse and some of their signature whisky brands include; Glen Ord, Johnnie Walker, Glen Elgin, Glenkinchie, J&B, Oban, Singleton, Bell’s, Bushmills, Dimple, Dalwhinnie, Cragganmore, Lagavulin, Talisker and Coal Ila. No wonder this man is so well respected in Whisky circles – Rynard is truly a top notch Whisky Connoisseur whom you can actually ask to present private whisky tastings and food pairings for you and a few selected friends.
Surfing and Stand-up Paddle Surfing
I am an avid waterman and when I am not diving for crayfish, swimming or surfing you can find me on the SUP. Here are some pics on Flickr and a video or two on YouTube.
Ok, enough of me…
Slainte Mhath!
Etienne
